How To Add Products to Specials Module for osCommerce Print E-mail

The Specials module is a great tool to use on your osCommerce site for selling your dropship products.  The difference between a product marked as Specials and a product marked as Featured is that the Specials will be displayed on your site, often on the main page, with the old price and your new price.  The products will be displayed in the "Specials" info-box section on your store.

Somel osCommerce installs might notl have the Specials Module, but this contribution can easily be installed.

It is very easy to set products as Special.

1- Log into your osCommerce CRE Loaded store's main Admin menu
2- Go to the menu for Categories/Products
3- Select the link under Categories/Products called "Specials"  (Navigating the admin menu is very easy.  For example, you control products marked as Specials through the main link called "Specials".  You just need to learn which main Menu's are used for which functions.  For example, the Categories/Products menu controls most of the main functions for modules that use the product data and apply it to different modules on your pages.
4- From the Specials link you will be taken to the Specials main menu.  There will be no product data here if this is the first time you have added a product as a Special.
5- From the Specials menu, select the "new product" button.
6- Use the "Product:" drop down menu to select the product that you want to mark as a special.
7- Use the "Special Price:" to set the new price for your special
8-      Use the "Expiry Date:" if you want the special for that product to end at a certain date.

Specials Notes:
---You can enter a percentage to deduct in the Specials Price field, for example: 20%
---If you enter a new price, the decimal separator must be a '.' (decimal-point), example: 49.99
---Leave the expiry date empty for no expiration

9- When you are done with your settings, use the "insert" button to add the product as a Special.

How To Remove the Join Newsletter Option From A CRE Loaded Template Print E-mail

Some users do not want to manage a Newsletter.  Some templates have a form to accept a Newsletter on key pages, but it can be removed.

The Newsletter option is in the HTML for the page where an account is created, and it would need to be removed from that location.

When you view the site through and FTP process, th file is

 /templates/<template_name>/content/create_account.tpl.php

You need to remove the HTML row of the table where the NEWSLETTER content is displayed.  In osCommerce CRE Loaded 6.15 the change cannot be completed from the main Admin menu, but someone with a little HTML knowledge can remove it.

If you intend to go in and remove this line, you should first make a backup copy of your original create_account.tpl.php file locally on your machine, so that it is easy to revert back in case of any problems.

How To Correct X'd Out Box Where Image File Should Be Print E-mail
We capture new images a few times a week for the Zip files and autoloading features.

If we do not have the image or the supplier does not have the image, we do not reference an image in the product upload files.

For any store that shows an X'd out images, it usually means that the "Images Required" is set to "true".  This does not mean that a product will only appear when there is an image as some users might think.  It means that an image will always be required for the products.  This is what will create an image file name for the product but load a small x'd out box.

This is a setting in the "Configuration -> Images" section of the admin, and if set to "true" then it will try to display an image for everything, even if one doesn't exist.

There is the ability to have a picture applied when no other image is available, but this requires the platform to be customized.  You can do this yourself or we can apply an image for all products without an image.  It tends to be a two hour custom project at our standard project rate.  You can email support@inventorysource.com if you are interested in this customization.
