How To Change The Main Page & Add Featured Products, Sales, New Products, News, etc Print E-mail

1)   Log into your store Admin

2)   Go to the Design Controls menu on the main page

3)   Click Template Admin link under Design Controls menu

4)   Go to your template in use from the template menu.  It should be selected, and click the "Edit" button for the selected template.

5)   You will see the detailed options on the right side.  Go to "Select Modules For Main Page"

6)   You will see the 6 drop down menu options for adding content sections to the main page of your site: default_specials, example, featured, main_categories, main page, new products, newsdesk, newsdesk_sticky, and upcoming products

7)   The order will show how they appear.

Mainpage.php is the content from the Define Main Page link on the main Admin menu.

Even with a template, osCommerce CRE Loaded allows you to change the look of your site easily.  For example, if you want newsdesk items in the top middle of your site, you make it the first drop down menu item.  Now you have a "content manager" for the main page of your site.  There are very few limitations with this store platform.

Do You Have Any FREE FTP Tutorials? Print E-mail
After you have read the guide, "What does FTP mean?".  You might want to go to this link: http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm

This site contains some good material for learning more about FTP programs and the process.  It also includes some tutorials.

What Does FTP Mean? Print E-mail
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a commonly used protocol for exchanging files over any network that supports the TCP/IP protocol (such as the Internet or an intranet).

Your website has webfiles and directories.  These directories are the folders which hold your webfiles, or "www" directory file.  These files and directories together are what make your website.  Think of it as your website's DNA.  The DNA for your site are the files that are stored on your hosted account or the server box where you site data is stored.  If you need to add data or files to your website, this can be quickly and easily done via FTP.  It will allow you to connect your PC with these online files, such as your products or images.

There are two computers involved in an FTP transfer: a server and a client. The FTP server, running FTP server software, listens on the network for connection requests from other computers. The client computer, running FTP client software, initiates a connection to the server. Once connected, the client can do a number of file manipulation operations such as uploading files to the server, download files from the server, rename or delete files on the server and so on. Any software company or individual programmer is able to create FTP server or client software because the protocol is an open standard. Virtually every computer platform supports the FTP protocol. This allows any computer connected to a TCP/IP based network to manipulate files on another computer on that network regardless of which operating systems are involved (if the computers permit FTP access). There are many existing FTP client and server programs, and many of these are free.

How To: Connect Links To The Content From The Admin When Changing Templates Print E-mail

When you change a template on your osCommerce or CRE Loaded site, such as for the Hosted Account Solution, some links might appear "broken".

When you change a template you are changing the look and style, but some templates use a different order for hard coded links to information pages, such as "Privacy", "Shipping & Returns", etc.  These changes are easily corrected.

Information Pages & Links

From the front of your site, when you see a link page from the top menu, bottom menu or side links, many take you to an "ID" or Information Page.
